Are you eligible for unemployment insurance?

On Behalf of | Sep 20, 2019 | Insurance Law |

Are you a resident of Bellevue who has suddenly found yourself in a situation where you lack the income that you rely on to make a living? If so, you may be wondering what your financial options are. In this scenario, it’s important to understand whether or not you are eligible for unemployment compensation, otherwise known as unemployment insurance (UI).

FindLaw takes a look at the eligibility requirements for unemployment insurance, which must be met in order for you to gain said compensation. There are some general requirements that apply to almost all states. Other requirements are state-specific.

Here are a few of the general requirements:

  • You must have been employed at the company for a certain period of time
  • You must be able to provide proof that you can legally work within the country
  • You must be available for work immediately
  • You must physically be able to work
  • You must have earned a certain amount of wages before you became unemployed

There are some things that might disqualify you as well, and they almost all have to do with intentional misconduct. This can include taking unexcused absences, being tardy often, sexual harassment, dishonesty, extreme insubordination, being intoxicated while on the job, or violating any of the workplace rules.

If you did not commit any act that may have disqualified you from receiving these benefits, you may want to look into seeking the aid of an experienced attorney. They can help you gain unemployment insurance for being let go, which can help supplement you until you are back on your feet.
